Frequently Asked Questions
What does the scanner detect?
Aadhaar (Verhoeff-checked), PAN, credit/debit cards (Luhn-checked), emails, phone numbers, IFSC, GSTIN, passport numbers, dates of birth, URLs, IP addresses, and PDF metadata fields like Author, Producer and Creator.
Is anything uploaded to a server?
No. Text extraction, regex matching, validation and redaction all run in your browser via pdf.js and pdf-lib. Nothing leaves your device.
How accurate is the detection?
Regex-based detection is not perfect — expect false positives on phone-shaped numbers and false negatives on OCR'd scans. Always review before publishing. Cards and Aadhaars use checksum validation to reduce noise.
Are scanned PDFs supported?
The scanner works on the text layer. Scanned PDFs need OCR first — run them through the Searchable PDF tool and then scan the OCR'd copy.
How does redaction work?
Opaque black rectangles are drawn on top of each match. For hardened redaction you should also flatten the PDF afterwards using the Flatten tool so the underlying text objects can't be re-extracted.
What about metadata?
By default the redactor strips Author, Title, Subject, Keywords, Producer and Creator from the output PDF. Uncheck the option to keep it.
